How to Watch the 2026 Winter Olympics in VR on Quest

The 2026 Winter Olympics kick off this week in Milan Cortina, Italy, and you can watch all of NBCUniversal’s coverage in VR on your Meta Quest headset. Here’s everything you need to know to get set up before the Opening Ceremony on February 6th.

What You Need

  • A Meta Quest headset (Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S, or Quest Pro)
  • The Peacock app installed from the Quest Store
  • A Peacock Premium subscription ($11/month with ads, or $14/month ad-free)
  • A US location (Peacock is only available in the United States)

How It Works

The Peacock app on Quest offers two ways to watch the Olympics:

Virtual Theater Mode: Watch on a massive screen in a private virtual cinema environment. Great for immersive viewing of figure skating, skiing, and other events where you want to feel like you’re there.

Mixed Reality Mode: A large 2D screen floating in your physical space. This lets you watch while still seeing your surroundings, perfect for keeping an eye on your room while catching events throughout the day.

Key Dates

  • February 4: Early events begin (curling round robin, ski and luge training runs)
  • February 6: Opening Ceremony from Milan
  • February 6-22: Full competition schedule
  • February 22: Closing Ceremony

What to Watch

Peacock is streaming 2,500+ hours of Olympic coverage, including every event live and on-demand. Some highlights:

  • Figure Skating: The biggest draw for many viewers, with singles, pairs, and ice dance competitions
  • Alpine Skiing: Downhill, slalom, and super-G from the Italian Dolomites
  • Snowboarding: Halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air events
  • Hockey: Full tournament coverage for both men’s and women’s teams
  • New Events for 2026: Ski mountaineering makes its Olympic debut

Tips for the Best Experience

  1. Use a good Wi-Fi connection: Streaming in VR requires stable bandwidth. 5GHz networks work best.

  2. Take breaks: Watching for extended periods in VR can be tiring. The Olympics run for 17 days, so pace yourself.

  3. Try both viewing modes: Start with the virtual theater for the Opening Ceremony, then switch to MR mode for casual event browsing.

  4. Use Peacock’s Multiview: Peacock offers Multiview for watching up to four events simultaneously.

Getting Started

  1. Open the Quest Store and search for ā€œPeacockā€
  2. Download and install the free app
  3. Sign in with your Peacock account (or create one)
  4. Subscribe to Peacock Premium if you haven’t already
  5. Navigate to the Olympics section once coverage begins February 4th

The Milan Cortina games mark the first Winter Olympics in Italy since Turin 2006. With VR viewing on Quest, you can catch all the action from your couch.

Note: VR viewing through Peacock is a 2D experience on a virtual screen. This is not 180° or 360° immersive video. NBC has not announced any spatial video content for Quest at this time.
